My name is Jane, I am twenty-eight years old and living in Ireland. I first developed alopecia at the age of five when bald patches started to show in my hair. At age eleven it got very bad and the patches were a lot harder to hide, until at age fifteen I finally had to shave the remaining two patches off. I felt ugly, lost all self-confidence and was utterly horrified when I looked in the mirror. For many years I suffered with my appearance and just wanted to hide away from the world. Two years ago, I made the biggest decision of my life so far, I put up a bald picture of myself on social media and I have never looked back. The response I have gotten is amazing. I can now look in the mirror again and have come to accept the person who looks back. I now truly believe beauty shines from the inside and beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
